Data Safety Ahead of Reclaiming More Space

MintDisk puts data safety ahead of reclaiming disk space. Cleanup rules and system optimizations are accepted only after their safety boundaries are clear and verified on real systems.

Read-Only Scans by Default

Scanning an entire disk never modifies, moves, or deletes any file. You review all items and reclaimable sizes before confirming any cleanup.

Trash-First on macOS Local Volumes

Large Files, Duplicate Files, Disk Space Analysis, and Application Uninstall move items to the Trash by default. You can restore them anytime.

Protected System Paths

Critical operating system paths, active processes, and protected user documents are safeguarded by build-validated declarative TOML rules.

Operation History & Auditing

Every cleanup operation is logged locally with timestamp, reclaimed space, and exact action taken (Trash vs. Permanent), exportable to CSV or JSON.

Important Safety Boundaries

1. On macOS local volumes, Large Files, Duplicate Files, Disk Space Analysis, and Application Uninstall move items to the Trash first where you can restore them. Leftovers removed from Deep Cleanup and applications requiring root administrator permissions are deleted permanently.

2. On Windows and Linux volumes without Trash support, items remain untouched unless you explicitly select permanent deletion with a second confirmation.

3. MintDisk has no general undo of its own once items are permanently deleted. Keep reliable backups of important data.

Safety FAQ

Can I undo a cleanup action?

On macOS local volumes, items removed via Large Files, Duplicate Files, Disk Space Analysis, and Application Uninstall are moved to the Trash by default, allowing immediate recovery. For permanent deletions, MintDisk has no general undo of its own; keep reliable backups of important data.

Does MintDisk scan inside symlinks or external drives?

MintDisk honors protected link policies and never blindly traverses symlinks or reparse points. On external or network drives without a local Trash folder, items are left untouched unless you explicitly choose permanent deletion with a second confirmation.

How are cleanup rules tested and verified?

Cleanup rules are written in declarative TOML and checked at build time. Rules are accepted only after verifying their safety boundaries on real macOS machines.

Does MintDisk collect telemetry or send files to the cloud?

No. MintDisk operates locally on your machine with zero telemetry by default. File scanning, analysis, and cleaning run entirely on your device.
